1. Learn about the endangered species in your area. Make sure to research which animals you should be mindful of when going out in nature. Make sure you do not have harmful substances that could hurt those animals especially. Teach other people about what you learned too. Make sure to inform them of the dangers that you could cause to these species.
2. Visit a national park. Make sure to take an interest in the protection of these endangered species. The profits of these organizations goes directly to the animals in need of saving. 3. Recycle products. By recycling products it avoids the issue of animals getting trapped in the waste that is left behind. Recycling also helps make things from those products instead of creating new things which could lead to pollution. 4. Protect the wildlife habitat. By protecting the habitat you are saving the animals from future problems. From reading these blog posts you understand the importance of keeping our wildlife habitats protected from outside threats. Make sure not to litter and to clean up around your house when you can. 5. Donate! Find a reliable website or organization to donate to the cause! Your money is always appreciated when helping these animals find a new life and for rehabilitating them. Here are two websites that can help you donate today! https://www.worldwildlife.org/ http://www.endangeredspeciesinternational.org/donations.html

The main reason giant pandas are endangered is because of the habitat destruction. The population of China has started to increase steadily. The pandas have taken second to the developers that need that land to build on. Their bamboo forests are being torn into. The pandas are being pushed farther and farther into the depths of the forests. This development of the land also leads to food shortages. The pandas feed and live off of the bamboo in the forests. That is their main source of food and the bamboo gets depleted very quickly. When the bamboo dies out before it's time of bloom then it is all gone before the season. China has tried to combat the food shortage issue and so far it has shown positive results, but there is still the issue of shelter for the animals. Pandas are very important for spreading the seeds and keeping the growth of bamboo strong. They spread the bamboo around which helps the other animals that are endangered. There are a few different species that are also dying out because of the lack of bamboo shelter. With the tearing down of the forests it makes it harder for pandas to do their jobs. They are also a symbol of China and its beauty. Poaching is another main reason that pandas are going extinct. The pandas are mostly poached for their skin and fur. Their fur is made into coats for the wealthy. Their skin is also sold and traded because it is so rare. Pandas are also not hard to catch and kill if you know where to look for them, which makes them an easy target for poachers. http://www.animalfactguide.com/animal-facts/giant-panda/
https://pandasaes.wordpress.com/poaching/ What is an endangered species? An endangered species is a type of organism that is threatened by extinction. There are approximately 40,000 species endangered today. There are two main reasons that animals are becoming extinct: poaching and habitat loss. We have been suffering through these two forms of endangering animals for a very long time. Habitat loss can happen relatively quickly. A big human catastrophe can cause this loss. However humans can also contribute to the loss of habitats. Development in industry and agriculture is a big reason why humans are partly responsible. They tear up the forests and other ecosystems in order to get the best place to build. Development can also effect the food chain. If one species becomes endangered then all the other species that live off of it will suffer as well. When a species becomes extinct that messes with the whole food chain and deprives the animals of what they need to sustain for their lifestyle. The loss of trees also effects all the animals living off of the trees for food. So in the end the habitat loss does not only effect the organism's shelter, but also the food. Loss of a habitat also bring the wild animals closer to the people. When you start going deeper into forests to build homes, then that brings you closer to all the wild animals living not far form there. The animals that are becoming endangered usually have a lot of ground that they cover in their range. The closer people are to wild animals, the more likely accidents and attacks occur. To prevent this developers should look at the pros and cons of tearing down the forests. https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/endangered-species/
Hunting, trading, and eating gorillas is illegal almost everywhere, yet there are poachers that try to hunt these innocent animals. The law enforcement in some countries is not disciplined enough which explains why this poaching is still a problem. The ineffective judiciary branches also allow for poachers to get away with their activities. Gorillas are mostly poached for their meat. There is a large demand for bushmeat in foreign countries. Gorilla meat is seen as a food for the most wealthy elite people. This follows the example of why most animals are poached. It is difficult to tell how many gorillas are poached a year because they are usually killed, cooked, and eaten right on the spot if they are not traded off. Gorillas are an easy hunting job because they are slower than most creatures. They also have so much meat to offer the trading industry. Gorillas also reproduce very slowly. This makes it hard to repopulate the earth of these animals before they go extinct. Gorillas are caught in many traps that are set up for other animals like antelopes. This also makes it hard to keep the gorillas at a steady population. Some of the gorilla parts are also wrongly used for medicine like other poached animals. Gorillas also suffer a habitat loss just like the sea turtles. However instead of natural predators, gorillas' homes are being taken away by humans logging. There are many agricultural and road building assignments that are taking over the forests. Another natural cause of death for gorillas is the disease Ebola. It infects mostly gorillas living in African countries and spreads around very quickly. http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/great_apes/gorillas/threats/
Sea turtles are poached for their meat, their eggs, and their shells. Their meat and eggs are used as a delicacy in certain areas of the world. The trading of turtle eggs is used for trading and people make most of their income off of the poached turtles. Their shells are used in certain jewelry, instruments, or wall decor. They could also be used for ornamental purposes. On some islands sea turtles are used for ceremonial purposes. Some religions use the shells as ornaments to show the importance of their religion. In the Hindu religion one of their gods was reincarnated as "Kachhapa" which was a turtle, holding the weight of the world on its back. This makes the sea turtles important and protected among those religions. Turtles were originally consumed during religious holidays. They were also eaten as a delicacy called " turtle soup" in European countries. However, later they were proven to be endangered from these activities. This helped the people see that they were hurting their protected sea creatures. Most religions have now stopped with the consumption of turtles but there is still the threat of poachers. However, poachers are not the only threats to turtles. They also have natural habitat threats. Many predators try to steal the sea turtles eggs from their nests. When the sea turtles hatch out of their shells they need to make it to the water without predators attacking them. This is also a hard task because of the birds waiting along the shore to find food. All of these things are reasons that the sea turtles of today are endangered. http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/marine_turtles/asian_marine_turtles/background/

The demand for Rhino horns has increased in recent years in Asian countries, especially in Vietnam. The horns are made up like hooves, beaks, or bills of birds. They are made with many different chemicals. They have amino acids stored in them that is used in some cultures' medications. The Chinese culture uses the horns for medicine and for a symbol of wealth or success. The medicine is used to treat fever, snakebites, headaches, etc. The horn is ground into powder and dissolved in water to be used by the patients. However, it is not proven that the horn actually serves any medical purposes. It is rumored just to be a prayer symbol or voodoo. There are five different species that are all endangered because of this reason. There has been an increase in the demand or rhino horn in Vietnam lately. They say that it cures hangovers or terminal illnesses, however according to a survey the people buy the horns for a whole different reason. The survey stated that the people buying the rhino horns use them as a symbol for their wealth and social status. The customers buying these horns are very powerful, highly educated, successful organization leaders. They value their image and status above everything else. There are many organizations that were created to help stop the poaching. However the crisis has become out of hand. The rhinos are now endangered and there is little that law enforcement can do to help. The wardens aren't able to stop the poachers because of the issue of trust and trespassing. Please help this cause by donating to an organization that is for the good of the animals. https://www.savetherhino.org/rhino_info/threats_to_rhino/poaching_for_rhino_horn
http://www.stoprhinopoaching.com/ Today I will discuss, why are tigers poached? Tigers are mostly poached for their pelts. The pelts are put on the black market and can make a fortune. The demand for tigers has increased over the years because their skin has become more valuable. Their pelts are used for promotions in some businesses.
Poaching is an immediate threat to tigers in our world today. Their parts are used for medicine, folk remedies, and they are a symbol of status among some Asian cultures. Some of the tigers bones are also smuggled to China for medicine. The skins are used for décor in luxurious Chinese homes. But this does not just occur in China, it is seen all over the world. Tigers are usually hunted in organized gangs. It is not just by one poor local trying to make a living. In order to kill a tiger poachers must set up metal traps. The tigers are stuck in a state of suffering all night until they are too exhausted to struggle any longer. Sometimes the poachers even poison carcasses of the tiger’s prey to try to kill them. The penalties for killing these beautiful creatures is much less than it should be. There is only a four percent conviction rate. There are thousands of cases that come in to the judicial court system. Only some of these cases are dealt with correctly. Wildlife crime comes in low on the list of priorities. Over the course of the next few blog posts, I will be discussing the dangers of poaching several different animals in the world. Today I will be talking about the dangers of poaching on Elephants. Why are elephants poached? The answer to that question is for their tusks. The biggest tusks come from the large male elephants. The matriarchs were extremely susceptible to the poaching. The matriarchs are the leaders of the elephant families, and are most likely the oldest females of the herd. The herd will suffer immensely after losing their matriarch. When elephants lose their matriarch it makes them go through social and physiological complications. Many of the young elephants will become orphaned and die from their lack of guidance. The matriarch cares for the needs of all the other elephants in the herd. In almost every instance, poaching is the reason for the matriarch to die prematurely. Elephants used to be very common in Africa and Asia, but during the twentieth century there was a influx in the ivory trade market. Now the number of elephants in the world has depleted. They are the largest land mammal on the earth so they are in constant need of food, water, and land. Elephants are in competition with many people in our world for all the plants they consume and the space that they take up. Elephants have also served as an important religious and cultural role. Because of their strength and size they are interesting for people of all different cultures. In some of the civilizations in the world elephants have served as gods, or even royalty. In Asia elephants have served as the marker between war and peace. As you can see elephants have had a huge role in our world today, but because of the rampant poaching they have become an endangered species. http://conservationbiology.uw.edu/research-programs/effects-of-poaching-on-african-elephants/
https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/elephant http://www.bagheera.com/inthewild/van_anim_elephant.htm So why do people feel the need to unnecessarily kill animals? First off, in many third world countries there is poverty and unemployment. When people see that there are animals they see the animals as food that they can eat, or sell to make money. They use the meat to feed their families. The children are not expected to say “No, I don’t want to eat poached animals.” They will eat whatever food comes to them in a time of need. There is also a theory that rhino tusks have an important substance that can be used for medicine. The people poach the rhinos just to tear off the tusks and make money off of selling them. They are in it for themselves. The buyers might claim that they will use the tusks for medicine when in reality they might resell them for more money. They might also keep the tusks as trophies to show how accomplished of hunters they are. So why should we care that there is poaching in our world? Poaching can be very dangerous to say the least. Many of the animals being illegally hunted are dangerous and may fight back if not dealt with properly. Rhinos and elephants may feel endangered and trample the hunters. Other more dangerous species might fight the poachers and kill them. Finally, animals are becoming endangered at this moment because of poachers. There have been many species that have gone extinct. There are thousands of endangered species that could be helped if poachers did not intend to strike. Be conscientious of the animals that may never live on this earth again. Realize that each animal was created for a reason, and they all have a role in our society. http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20160310-the-difficult-truth-about-poaching
Today I will explain one aspect of the reason animals are endangered today, poaching. I will also explain how poaching differs from hunting. Poaching is the illegal killing of wildlife disregarding local, federal, and international laws. Example actions that are considered poaching are killing an animal out of season or without a license. Killing an endangered species or exceeding someone's bag limit or even killing an animal while trespassing are also all actions that would be considered poaching. More examples incude: use of a prohibited weapon or taking the wrong sex, or life stage of an animal. Another definition of poaching would be the act of illegally hunting. Poaching differs from hunting because hunting involves permission. If you have permission from the owners of the land, then you are considered hunting instead of poaching. Hunting is an ethical sport, that revolves around getting licenses and hunting within the correct seasons. Hunting is mostly used for food, for big game trophies, or for trade. Poaching also is involved in these things but once again the right to do so, or the permission, is not present. Where does poaching occur in our world? Poaching occurs everywhere in our world, but the most commonly poached places are areas in Africa. Zimbabwe and Kenya are the two leading areas animals are poached by hunting. Although in South America there is also the issue of animals being trapped and sold in pet stores, which is also an example of poaching. Although most of the commonly poached areas may not be close to you, it does not mean that is isn’t happening right in front of your eyes. Have you ever went hunting or fishing and decided to keep one more of any species? At that moment in time you were considered poaching. Have you ever trespassed on someone else’s property and shot a deer? That also was considered poaching. It lives in the world around you, so next time you go out for a hunt be sure to follow the laws and be cautious of where you are. Throughout the course of these blogs I will explain how animals are endangered through poaching and other aspects. http://www.nikela.org/what-exactly-is-animal-poaching/
